Marshall Jones began his journey in the electronic music scene in 1999, driven by a passion for dancing and nightlife. His deepening interest in electronic music led him to seek guidance from Hotwax Harley. Marshall and his BBoy/B-Girl dance crew promoted the Wednesday event Radiance, sparking his desire to become a DJ. His dedication and hard work earned him an internship at Ovum Recordings under Josh Wink and King Britt.
In 2002, Marshall moved to Orlando, FL to attend Full Sail University. Immersing himself in the local nightlife, he worked with various house music collectives and secured an internship with Large Music in 2004. He co-hosted a radio show on WPRK 91.5FM at Rollins College (Winter Park, FL) and co-founded Soulidified Music with Ian Lee. They performed at prominent venues and hosted major DJs from across the country. With continued dedication to the music and pursuit, the doors opened for Marshall to perform duties with Large Music and play events at the Winter Music Conference in South Beach Miami, FL.
In 2007, he received a great opportunity from the CEO of Large Music to relocate to Chicago and work directly beside him. This is where Marshall learned from industry legends such as Roy Davis Jr., Jeff Craven, Mark Grant, SuperJane (DJ Heather, Colette, Lady D, and Dayhota), Andre Harris, and many more. He played at renowned venues including Smartbar, Crobar, Zentra, and other venues. More doors opened for him and he regularly appeared on UIC College radio, Vocalo.org with Lady D and eventually co-hosted a monthly event at Morseland Bar with the late DJ Don Clark and Mayra Neria. Together they featured some of the greatest world-renowned Chicago legendary DJs.
In 2009, Marshall returned to Durham, North Carolina and teamed up with DJ Nugz to form the duo, Sound Cartel. They started a monthly event in Chapel Hill, NC at the Turkish restaurant, Talullas. The duo would appear as guest DJs alongside residents DJ Feinberg and K.Ward at Mosaic Wine Lounge (Raleigh, NC). Through multiple successful performances, they created one of the longest-running house music nights there entitled, Sultry. Simultaneously, Marshall with his friend Marco launched DanceGruv Radio which today hosts DJs worldwide out of 10 countries. More opportunities arose which allowed him to work behind the scenes and perform at Mi Casa Holiday and West Coast Weekender. In 2018, he then became a member of The Floor (Durham, NC). The group of 4 created, hosted, and played events at The Fruit (Durham, NC). They were a driving local artist’s force behind the collaboration for Moogfest and also curated plus pioneered the events in The Basement of The Fruit.
With over 20 years of experience in DJing, producing events, and house music education from some of the legends of the industry, he is still going strong. Marshall has performed with global artists such as Roy Davis Jr., Julius The Mad Thinker, J Paul Getto, Honey Dijon, DJ Heather, Colette, Demarkus Lewis, and many more. With his dedication to his team and community, Marshall views house music as a true calling with the next steps to hone in on producing tracks. In his own words, Marshall says, “The thing that I cherish the most about House Music is that I am not a part of a culture, but more of a part of a global movement.”
