Marshall Jones started out in the scene in mid 99′. Just like a lot of people who are drawn in by the scene, Marshall was all about dancing and enjoying the nightlife.

The more he wanted to dance, the more in-depth he became with Electronic Music in general. His thirst for knowledge grew which is when he sought out answers through the guidance of Hotwax Harley. He and his BBoy/B-Girl dance crew began promoting the Wednesday event entitled, Radiance. Eventually, this led to the itch that encouraged Marshall to want to become a DJ. By practicing hard, he never deterred from the roots of the community, the music, and his dedication to those who supported him. Above all, his drive and determination granted him an internship for Ovum Records under Josh Wink and King Britt.

Gears shifted for him once he moved to Orlando in 2002 and became a student at Full Sail University. Marshall worked with numerous House music collectives to explore Orlando’s nightlife. Once again, through hard work, skills, and determination, he became a known element in Orlando. In 2004, he acquired another internship with the global label based out of Chicago, Large Music. He also played with friends on their very own radio show on WPRK at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. In the same year, he crossed paths and became friends with Ian Lee. Through their friendship, they saw that they were on the same path when it came to music. This led to the birth of them creating one of Orlando’s respected duos entitled Soulidified Music. The two played at venues such as Crooked Bayou, Cleo’s, Suite B, Sky60, and The Social. They brought in major DJs/Producers from all over the country. In addition to his Orlando success, Marshall helped out with major Large Music events during WMC, and album releases, and played all over Florida.

In 2007, he traded the sunny beaches of Florida for a move to “The Windy City” aka Chicago. While there, he took in teachings from some of the best in business. His mentors are legendary DJs/Producers Roy Davis Jr., Jeff Craven, Mark Grant, Andre Harris, Gene Farris, and many more. Eagar to make a name for himself in the city, started playing out at numerous events and venues with his mentors. Such venues as Smartbar, Uptown Lounge, Zentra, Crobar, and others. Marshall played regularly on UIC college radio and Vocolo.org. This led to him also beginning a monthly event with friends, Don Clark and Mayra Neria, at Morseland Bar in Chicago’s Morseland area. They featured many major and local DJs which led to the night swiftly growing to be one of the best in the area.

In mid-2009, Marshall relocated back to NC. He then linked up with his longtime friend DJ Nugz. They worked hard, navigating through the House music scene to become Sound Cartel. Together, they successfully created one of the longest-running House music nights at Raleigh’s premiere venue, Mosaic Wine Lounge. They have also reinvented and launched the online radio station entitled DanceGruv Radio, which currently hosts up to 65 DJs from all over the world. Most recently, he has become a member of the amazing crew based in Durham, NC entitled The Floor with members Strider, thefacesblur, and Marie. They currently curate a very successful night called “Foundations” at the venue, The Fruit. In addition, they work with the world-renowned MoogFest festival in Durham.

With 20 years of DJing, Producing, and House music knowledge under his belt, Marshall has played with many global artists such as Roy Davis Jr., Julius The Mad Thinker, Demarkus Lewis, Jask, Rich Medina, J Paul Getto, DJ Heather, Colette, Oscar P, Sonny Fodera and many more. He is forever dedicated to his team, and projects, and giving back to the community through the power of music. In his own words, he puts it simply, “The thing that I cherish the most out of House Music is that I am not a part of a culture, but more a part of a global movement”.
